A temporary seasonal four (4) month position under the direct supervision of the assigned supervisor in the Parks, Urban Forestry, Water, Wastewater, Street/Stormwater, Fleet/Facilities divisions and under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and the Parks & Public Works Director. Performs duties associated with the maintenance and operations of the City’s park and open spaces and public works facilities. Possible weekend and late hour work schedule.

Seasonal Parks & Public Works Maintenance Worker

$19 hour


SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Performs a variety of parks and public works maintenance activities including, but not limited to mowing, pruning, weeding, painting, brush cutting, fertilizing and assisting maintenance personnel.

Assists in maintenance of facilities in City parks and public works facilities, including janitorial and minor repair activities as directed.

This position is expected to operate and perform general maintenance of a variety of equipment, including but not limited to mowers, weed trimmers, spray painting equipment and other light equipment and machinery as well as hand and power tools used in maintaining city facilities.

At times, may work alongside youth training participants and court appointed community service individuals.

Other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education and Training:
High School diploma or GED.
Valid Washington drivers license with a good driving record.
Certified in First Aid/CPR, desirable.
Must be able to pass a Washington State Patrol background check.
Must be 18 years of age.
COVID19 vaccination certificate

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of materials, equipment, and maintenance methods.
Knowledge and ability to practice on the job safety practices which will minimize municipal liability.

Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with Division Supervisors and lead workers, Parks & Public Works Director, Operations Manager, Parks & Public Works maintenance workers, other fellow employees, property owners and the public.

Ability to operate small power lawn and maintenance equipment.

Ability to receive and follow written & oral instructions.

Physical Demands:

Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods in both indoor and outdoor parks and recreation facilities, some exposure to inclement weather, dust and noise. Person will be required to lift 60 lbs.
