Facilities Manager

Reports to: Facilities Director

$35 to $45 Hour

The Facilities Manager will be involved in nearly all aspects of farm operations, with a focus on maintaining equipment and facilities. The Facilities Manager is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled construction, maintenance, modification and repair activities as assigned while maintaining a positive work environment and a clean, safe and professional facilities.

The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, organized and community driven to take on this exciting role. This position requires someone equipped with a positive attitude and readiness with the ability work collaboratively when necessary.

Current facilities include 818 acres of agricultural and forest land, with a diverse mix of buildings and other structures, including residential, events and meeting spaces, as well as barns and facilities buildings. Current equipment includes but is not limited to Tractors, Utility Vehicles, Fleet Vehicles and various other light agricultural and construction equipment, irrigation system and a range of mechanical and small tools.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

Responsible for the regular inspection and maintenance, care, repair, and efficient operation of facilities and grounds

Perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks that can include but are not limited to those listed below. Does not need to be an expert in all areas, but should possess some foundational knowledge and have the capacity to learn from the Facilities Director in areas where there is more experience required to complete the task or projects.

-Carpentry: Perform or oversee painting, drywall repair, fabrication, and roof maintenance.
-Plumbing: Manage plumbing repairs, including major water lines, irrigation, waste, and general water systems.
-Propane Gas Lines: Install or oversee installation and maintenance of propane gas lines and appliances.
-Electrical: Troubleshoot electrical issues, including understanding of the power grid, generators, and complex electrical systems.
-Mechanical Work: Provide basic repairs for vehicles and agricultural machinery, handle emergent mechanical issues.
-Heavy Equipment Operation: Operate bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, and other farm equipment; perform minor mechanical repairs.
-Fleet Maintenance: Ensure all vehicles (vans, golf carts, etc.) are maintained and guest-ready. Handle emergent vehicle repairs and routine maintenance.
-Electronic Lock Systems: Manage electronic lock systems and gates.
-Logging, Roads, and Grounds Maintenance and Operations: tree removal, and operation of small power tools like chainsaws and weed eaters. Road maintenance, and winter weather preparedness.
-Waste Water: Willingness to learn how our wastewater systems are maintained in compliance with relevant regulations.

Assist team in ensuring facilities and equipment are ready for regular business and special events. This includes but is not limited to:
-Coordinate setup, and any required repairs for event spaces.
-Work closely with event planners to anticipate potential issues and handle last-minute requests or emergencies.

Oversee compliance related activities, including:
Oversee fire systems and extinguishers, ensuring all are compliant with local fire safety regulations.

Work with Facilities Director to ensure proper safety procedures are in place, including CPR training, safety tours, first aid kits, emergency lighting, and defibrillators.

Coordinate regular inspections of fire and safety systems.


Required Qualifications:

-7+ years of proven experience in facility management, including hands-on technical and mechanical skills
-Small engine repair skills
-Carpentry and construction skills
-Ability to troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems
-Knowledge of farm equipment and agricultural operations
-Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
-Familiarity with safety, compliance regulations, and fire systems
-Proficient in operating tractors and implements
-Ability to bend and lift 50+ pounds
-Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
-Commitment to mission, vision, and values of Carnation Farms
-Ability to maintain records and understand written directions in manuals and on websites
-Ability to use Google Drive as required to maintain records and data
-Ability to work some weekends and evenings for special events
-Be available for rotational on call weekend shifts, typically once per month

This position is non-exempt, full-time, Monday – Friday, with some requirements for weekends and evenings for special events.
