Part-time Middle School Humanities (ELA/SS) Teacher

$25 to $30 Hour


The Middle School Humanities Teacher is a passionate educator who empowers each student to grow and meet their full potential. Working in collaboration with partner teachers, the Middle School Humanities Teacher designs and implements a rigorous instructional program, using both direct instruction and a project-based learning approach in a learning environment which nurtures and develops the socio-emotional intelligence and capacity of their students. Hillside Academy teachers embrace diversity and learning differences and construct opportunities that nurture all students’ growth. Our teachers are interested in improving their practice through self-reflection, feedback and professional trainings. Teachers demonstrate strong character by modeling Christ-like behavior (patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control).

Responsibilities:
Teach English Language Arts and Social Studies while integrating project-based learning and utilizing STEAM curriculum, as appropriate.
Develop lesson plans and instructional strategies/materials, provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting student growth and achievement.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and citizenship to achieve a safe and respectful learning environment.
Evaluate students’ academic and social needs and growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
Build rapport and communicate with parents through conferences, weekly emails/newsletters reflecting students’ progress.
Provide a faith component as outlined by school director/board.
Collaborate with teachers and staff to promote a positive and effective learning environment.
Maintain professional competencies and expectations by attending in-service education/training, staff meetings/retreats as outlined in school calendar and teacher annual contract.
Maintain confidentiality of students and families.
Additional responsibilities as outlined by the school calendar and/or individual contract.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of subject matter/course content and resources relevant to assignment
Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional and assessment strategies and practices
Knowledge or ability to operate the technology used and utilize the software available
Knowledge of project-based learning and arts integration

Qualifications:
Washington State teaching certificate, or ability to acquire/renew certificate.
Appropriate endorsement(s)
Washington State Patrol check and Fingerprint Clearance and all other statements and disclosures in accordance with state law

Salary:
.5 FTE, $23,000-28,000 per year, DOE
