Part-time Music Teacher (Preschool-8th Grade)
$25 to $30 Hour
We are looking for a Music Teacher who can create a flexible Preschool-8 Music program. We have a curricular materials (e.g. Feierabend) to provide the basis of the program, but are also supportive of a teacher that would like to develop his or her own program. Students should learn basic vocal instruction, and various instruments, including percussion, brass, woodwinds and string instruments. The Teacher should develop hands-on activities to teach children pitch, rhythm and music notation, and music theory. The Teacher also works with other teachers to create interdisciplinary connections and administrators to implement school policies and procedures, especially around teamwork, performance, and Christian character development (patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) . There is potential for teaching an after-school enrichment class, periodically, and/or adding other part-time work to support programming needs at the school.
Responsibilities:
Teach music theory and practical techniques in the use of various instruments and vocal instruction.
Arrange recitals and/or concerts for students to showcase their learning.
Develop lesson plans and instructional strategies/materials; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting student growth and achievement.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and citizenship to achieve a functional, safe and respectful learning atmosphere.
Evaluate students’ academic, physical, and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
Build rapport and communicate with parents through a variety of formats reflecting students’ progress.
Provide a faith component as outlined by the school director/board.
Collaborate with teachers and staff to promote a positive and effective learning environment and behavioral expectations.
Maintains professional competencies and expectations by attending in-service education/training, staff meetings/retreats as outlined in school calendar and teacher annual contract.
Maintains confidentiality of students and families.
Additional responsibilities as outlined by the school calendar and/or individual contract.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of subject matter/course content and resources relevant to assignment
Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional and assessment strategies and practices
Knowledge or ability to operate the technology used and utilize the software available
Qualifications:
Washington State teaching certificate (desirable)
Appropriate endorsement(s) (desirable)
Washington State Patrol check and Fingerprint Clearance and all other statements and disclosures in accordance with state law (required)
