Tucked in the forest at the base of Mt. Si, Rainbow Lodge is a non-profit organization that fosters opportunities for guests to experience spiritual, personal, and professional growth in a tranquil and natural environment. We host groups ranging in size from 20 – 65 guests who come from all over the country longing for the radical hospitality and environment that Rainbow Lodge offers.
The Food Services program at Rainbow Lodge strives to fulfill our organizational mission by providing wholesome, nutritious, and delicious meals to all guests. Nearly everything is made from scratch, using locally and ethically sources ingredients when possible. Menus are tailor-made for each group, and always include substantial and nutritious options for people with particular dietary needs. Our team is passionate about retreat hospitality, and its role in creating a more just and equitable world. The Kitchen Assistant should share in our desire to go above and beyond for every guest who visits the Lodge.
$20 hour
Responsibilities and Expectations:
Teamwork and communication
oAbility to learn quickly and follow instructions oEffective verbal and written communication skills
oA willingness to both lead and be led. The Kitchen Assistant will work closely with the Food Services Director, and sometimes will be responsible for managing other cooks and volunteers in the kitchen
oDesire to work on a closely knit team environment, interacting regularly with other staff members, including the Executive Director. Enthusiasm for creating a diverse and inclusive workplace is paramount.
Hospitality
oExcellent hospitality and guest services skills. The Kitchen Assistant will regularly be interacting with guests, answering questions, and fulfilling requests
oAn interest in retreat hospitality, and in the mission of Rainbow Lodge
Production
oAssist the Food Services Director in preparing and serving healthy, wholesome, and nutritious meals for all guests at Rainbow Lodge
oFollow prep lists prepared by the Food Services Director to prepare produce, meats, seafood, and other ingredients
oBe trained to run meals without the assistance of the Food Services Director
oHandle prepared food during mealtimes, following food safety procedures, to ensure that all guests are fed on time
oAn understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures oExperience in fast-paced, commercial kitchen environments
oExperience with sourdough breads and cakes/pastries preferred, but not required
Other
oAssist the Food Services Director and Executive Director with other tasks, as needed oAbility to lift 50lbs oPossess a valid Washington State Food Worker Card, or a willingness to obtain one oMaintain a clean and orderly kitchen environment oAvailability to work mornings, weekends, and holidays
Compensation
•This position pays $20/hr.
•One to two meals provided during each shift
•This position will average 15-20 hours per week primarily in the mornings. We are willing and able to work around candidates schedules, as long as morning and weekend time is available.
•Due to the nature of retreat center work, a consistent schedule may not always be possible
