Entry Level Water Operator

$30 to $37 an hour


SALARY AND BENEFITS:
•Pay is $30.00 - $37.00 per hour depending on experience.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Primary responsibilities of this full-time position are:
• Maintenance and operations of wells, booster pumps, automatic control valves, tanks, and
sampling sites.
• Monitoring water quality by conducting sampling.
• Working overtime and weekends as needed for emergency situations at the direction of the
Superintendent.
• Participating in a weekly rotating 24-hour on-call duty after the successful completion of a
probation period.
• Maintain all aspects of a drinking water distribution system.
• May perform duties of similar complexity in other maintenance areas as required or assigned.
• May be assigned to hazardous work areas such as street surfaces, rights of way, medians, in
ditches, pits, and underground vaults, confined spaces, around heavy equipment, and operating
potentially dangerous tools.
• Typical assignments are outdoors, occasionally requiring work in inclement weather at dirty, wet,
noisy or cramped work sites.
• Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent and general supervision of the
Superintendent.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must:
• Possess construction experience and proven mechanical skills.
• Be able to operate a variety of hand and power tools, to include equipment to perform installation,
maintenance, and repair tasks.
• Be able to work outdoors in challenging weather conditions, able to climb water tanks, and work in
confined spaces.
• Have physical and mental ability to work in and around moving traffic and equipment.
• Have ability to perform strenuous physical labor, requiring physical dexterity and mechanical
aptitude.
• Physical abilities: walk continuously, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift objects weighing up
to 10 lbs. from below waist level to above shoulder level and transport for distances up to 100
yards, fine finger dexterity to operate tools and controls, firm grasp to lift and carry objects;
frequent sitting, standing, reaching, twisting at waist, upward and downward flexion of neck, sideto-side turning of neck, lifting of objects weighing 11-25 lbs. from below waist level to above
shoulder level and transporting up to 100 yards; occasional climbing, pushing/pulling, lifting of
objects weighing from 26-50 lbs. from below waist level to above shoulder level and transporting
for distances up to 10 yards; infrequent crawling, lifting of objects weighing from 51-100 lbs. below
and at waist level, with assistance, and transporting for distances up to 10 feet with assistance.
• Be able to use all required safety equipment properly.
• Be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, a valid Washington Driver’s License, and a
clean driving record.
• Be able to respond to emergency calls within 45 minutes.
• Possess a Water Distribution Manager 1 certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months.

• Quickly learns to work with electronic equipment, such as SCADA Systems.
• Works well independently while able to accurately prioritize time and projects with minimal
supervision.
• Preference Given to: Knowledge of water distribution systems and water treatment, distribution
and pumping practices or similar heavy industrial experience.
